Poets & Writers Magazine

My current gig! I have the privilege of working with an excellent editorial team to produce a bimonthly (once every two months) magazine for writers across the United States (and to a lesser extent, the world). My role as production editor here means I get to wear a lot of different hats, since I’m in charge of making sure the articles make it from text on a Word document to the final printed product. A regular week for me usually includes working to revise article galleys in InDesign and Acrobat, proofreading articles, reviewing comments from editors and freelancers, sending out contracts, and keeping in contact with our printer.

Generasian

I joined this club at NYU during my first year, and it was a great way to meet and grow my skills with other Asian American creatives in New York. Although I worked in both the video and magazine layout departments (and served as president during my senior year!), here’s some of our magazine work showcasing art and writing from the AAPI student body. Every semester, we’d recruit a new team of students who were interested in design, and I was the one of the people teaching our brand identity as a club and making sure that everything was consistent. I supervised, taught, and designed layouts in InDesign throughout all four years, and became one of the co-leads of layout during my senior year as well.

Pier To:

In the summer 2021, I joined a cool-girl Gen-Z cultural collective called Pier To: started by some friends of friends. We did a lot of things that year, but the most notable was this slick, shiny 80-page print magazine by a ragtag team of creatives working over Discord, Zoom, and Notion. I was in charge of the production for the magazine, which meant reaching out to businesses and negotiating price quotes for printing, designing and coordinating InDesign layouts with our graphic design team, and figuring out what the identity of this publication was going to be.
